Except for a last minute bout of nerves, he is ready.
She arrives in a swirl of short white cotton and long black hair. Sliding soft, jasmine scented fingers into his outstretched hand, she says, “Masaa el-kheir. Good evening.”
He hugs her. “Good evening, Nailah. I couldn’t leave Cairo without seeing you.”
“But you aren’t leaving alone. Isn’t that what this CELEBRATION dinner is about?”
He shakes his head. “No, it's my attempt to charm you. What am I missing?”
She smiles. “I’m your seatmate on the flight home, John.”
